Comparative Analysis of Enzyme-Liaked Immunosorbent Assay and Brain Computed Tomography in Diagnosis of Neurooysticercosis

Abstract
Infiltration of neurocysticercosis into central central nervous system produces system produces various symptoms and developments.
Two widely used treatments are pharmacologic therapy and surgical excision. Recently more focus is brought into prognosis and rehabilitation. Consequently leaving of much importance to traking medical progress through ELISA and computerized
tomography
of brain.
The authors has made a study to extract factors affecting prognosis after medical treatment by making comparisons of the size of a cyst, appearing on brain CT scan, before-and-after medication and the ELISA titers of serum and cerebrospinal
fluid,
examining 97 patients having neurocysticercosis confirmed through brain computerized tomography and magnetic.
@ES The results summarzed as follows:
1. ELISA sensitivity of serum and cerebrospinal fluid to neurocysticercrosis was 92% in average.
2. Ealse nogative ELISA titer was only found in the parenchymal type of neuro cysticercosis.
3. The ELISA titer of brain CT positive group (serum : 0.61, CSF : 0.68) was higher than that of brain CT suggestive group(serum ; 0.56, CSF; 0.64).
4. The intial ELISA to rebound group showed lower titer than the one in nonrebound group but follow-on 3 months ELISA titers revealed contrary figures high enough to be used as statistics. Also changes in CSF ELISA titers showed drastic
fluctuation
when compared to serum ELISA.
5. Overall reduction of cyst after medication produced higher rates in rebound group.
6. As a way determine prognoses of neurocysticercosis after medical treatment and with the immunologic assumption that medical treatments are more effective in rebound group, within 3 months ELISA titers of serum and CSF for the patients were
figured
out and classified as rebound and non-rebound groups and then overall reduction rates of cyst, being tracked down through brain CT, were compared against each other.
